3D/4D spine scan Radiation-free posture analysis for detecting misalignments
Many back and posture-related complaints are caused by undetected misalignments or muscular imbalances. The 3D/4D spine scan allows us to analyze your posture in a radiation-free and contactless way – forming the basis for targeted therapy, training, and prevention.
What is a 3D/4D spine scan?
The 3D/4D spine scan is a contactless, radiation-free measurement method used to analyze the spine and overall body posture using optical raster stereography.
A light grid is projected onto the back and recorded by a camera. Specialized software generates a three-dimensional model of the back surface and reconstructs the spinal alignment and pelvic position.
The scan takes only a few seconds and provides precise information about body statics, including spinal curvature, vertebral rotation, pelvic alignment, and muscular imbalances.
- 3D: Three-dimensional representation of the spine in standing position
- 4D: Series of measurements for objective follow-up and progress monitoring
The goal is a reliable posture assessment for early detection of misalignments – comparable to an X-ray image, but without radiation exposure.
How does the 3D/4D spine measurement work?
The measurement is performed in an upright standing position in our gait laboratory.
Procedure:
- Upper body uncovered (measurement from behind)
- Long hair tied up, jewelry removed
- A projection system casts light lines onto the back
- A camera captures the surface structure
- A digital 3D model of the spine is calculated
Results are immediately processed and discussed with you.
The examination is:
- painless
- contactless
- purely optical
- radiation-free
completed within minutes
When is a 3D/4D spine measurement useful?
A 3D/4D spine analysis is suitable for:
- Back and spinal complaints
- Early detection of postural problems and scoliosis
- Assessment of pelvic tilt
- Initial examinations as a complement or alternative to X-ray
- Regular monitoring of therapeutic progress
- Adjustment of corrective insoles or orthopedic footwear
- Preventive posture screening
Not suitable:
- In acute emergencies
- If structural damage is suspected (e.g., disc herniation, fracture) – radiological imaging (X-ray/MRI) is required
Technical limitations (not medical contraindications):
- Dense back hair
- Large tattoos
- Severe obesity
What results does the scan provide?
The scan evaluates:
- Spinal shape
- Pelvic alignment and rotation
- Shoulder and pelvic height differences
- Rotational deviations
- Body statics and alignment
- Posture types and muscular imbalance patterns
It is ideal for monitoring changes resulting from therapy or training.
Benefits of spine analysis
Unlike X-rays, the 3D spine scan is performed without radiation. Key advantages include:
- No radiation exposure
- Painless and contactless
- Suitable for children and adolescents
- Ideal for repeated measurements
- Immediate digital evaluation
- Valuable complement or alternative to X-ray in functional posture diagnostics
